What the Future May Hold: April 2026

Hello! Welcome to April. Up here in Saskatchewan (at least in my area of the province) we just got another snow dump this week. Shoveling heavy wet snow is not something I enjoy doing. April snow. APRIL SNOW.

Sorry, I just wanted to rant about the weather for a bit. It's a common thing in Saskatchewan to complain about the weather. And yet we live here anyway...

In my case, I was born here and grew up here, so I'm kinda stuck here until if and when I decide to move elsewhere, but I happen to like my comfy, cozy home so here I shall stay. We do tease the people who came here from hot climates, though.

Anyway! Wahahahahaha! Welcome to my diary, where I ramble about whatever the heck I want to since nobody's told me what I should be talking about here! Not even my editor can contain me! Muahahahahahaha!

Today I think I'll take a break from my usual Arx-inspired antics. We're coming up to a major climax of the story as I write this, and while it probably won't be the last big fight, it has prompted me to start thinking about what might come after Miracles of Arx Nubibus draws to a close. I don't want a lot of downtime between this project and the next, which means I need to figure out what exactly I'll be writing when Arx does finally end.

My current model has me writing chapters of Arx's main story every week, and a side story every month for the folks on Patreon. The side stories expand on parts of the main story, but can safely be considered 'filler' content. They don't really affect the main story. For example, the first side story I wrote was basically Chapter 1 from Ned's perspective. I've also gone deeper into character backstories there, and played with downtime scenarios. Fun stuff mostly.

When Arx ends, I'll probably put up a vote on Patreon for some post-epilogue side stories. I have ideas I'd like to explore, and they'd only make sense in an after-story context. But once those are done?

Well, I'll start a new weekly project. I haven't fully decided what said weekly project will be, but it'll probably be something I'm flying by the seat of my pants through, similar to how I write Arx. Stories written this way aren't as polished as they could be, and while I would love to be able to post something with more polish, I'm not sure how that would work with my current setup.

I'm also wondering if I should start a new Patreon-exclusive story each month. I'm currently toying with ideas that would make for a fun set of novel-type things, each giving a slightly different perspective on the same world. Basically, I have a set of six or seven characters who graduate from the same school and go out into different parts of the world to put their education to use. One would be a comedy, another would lean more heavily into the intrigue, and another still could be a slow slice-of-life. I haven't hammered out all the details yet, but I think it would be fun.

And then, as for the free story I write after Arx, I'm toying with one or two ideas. Basically, like with Arx, I'd be playing around with various genres and tropes. I kind of want to write one of those reincarnated in another world as a monster/weird thing stories. The ones I've read tend to be fun. Or perhaps an overpowered protagonist type story? I'd do my own version of it, of course.

Can you tell I probably read far too many light novels? :P

I really couldn't say what I'll pick to do next. It'll probably depend on what my editor thinks is a good idea, and what I happen to feel like at the time. Man, I wish I had more time to write. Alas, I have other duties to occupy me.

Someday, I'd like to have a print novel. You know, one of those manuscripts that you send to a publisher and get them to mass produce for you? And then you see it in a bookstore? Every time I go into a bookstore nowadays, I'm stricken by the thought that I should really kick my butt in gear and get a publisher to pick up a print novel of mine. And then I mention it to my honourary little sister (who's usually with me on these excursions) and she agrees that I should, then promises to read it if I manage to get one.

Well, that's probably enough of me talking about my hopes, dreams and future plans. Next month I'll probably go back to discussing Arx stuff since there will be some very juicy developments happening at that time. And it'll be the fourth anniversary extravaganza! I need to prep for that ^^"

Everything will be on sale! I'll write double side stories! And Ophi will have made a new wallpaper for us to enjoy! I've seen the work-in-progress snapshots, and man are they pretty. Cold Snap looks so menacing, and Courtney looks awesome as well. Then we have Joey and Shell having a wrestling match in the background. It's good. I love watching her take my sketchy concept scribbles and making them gorgeous.

Anyway, that's it from me for now. I'll see you again elsewhere.
